What to Wear to Your Sports Massage (and Why It Matters)

So, you've booked a sports massage. Awesome. You're ready to get to work on that nagging shoulder, tight hip, or sore lower back. But then a question pops into your head: What am I supposed to wear?

If you're thinking about a typical spa massage where you’ll relax, usually naked under sheets, let's hit the reset button. A sports massage at our studio is a different game entirely. This is a hands-on, interactive treatment session focused on one thing - getting you results.

Why We're Different: It's All About Movement

Think of your session as a team effort. To figure out why something hurts, we need to see how you move. We aren't just rubbing sore muscles; we are assessing the mechanics of your body to get to the root of the problem.

During your session, your Revive Sports Massage therapist will need to:

  • Move your joints through their full range of motion.

  • Test your movement patterns to spot imbalances.

  • Stretch and lengthen muscles in ways you can't do while lying still under a sheet.

We can't do any of that effectively if you're tangled up in sheets and worried about exposing too much. That’s why what you wear is a key part of getting the best possible outcome.

The Suggested Dress Code for Results

To get the most out of your session, here’s the simple, no-fuss dress code during your session (walk in dressed however you want, we have spaces for you to change for your session!)

For Women: Shorts & a Sports Bra

It gives us the access we need to work on your entire back, shoulders, hips, glutes, and legs. You'll be able to move freely and comfortably while we do our work. Don’t want to bare that much skin? Don’t worry, feel free to keep a light shirt on; we can work through or around the fabric, but do keep in mind the type of fabric - cotton or something soft is the best.

For Men: A Pair of Gym Shorts

That's it. This allows for complete access to the hips, glutes, hamstrings, quads, low back, pecs - all the major areas that we’ll assess for athletic performance and recovery. Same as the ladies, though, if you feel more comfortable in a shirt, go for it.

What about being draped?

Your comfort and privacy are a top priority. Some of our therapists use sheets in their sessions during more relaxing massages, others don't even bring top sheets into the room and only use fitted sheets to keep the tables warm and clean for you. The difference is that we will be working with you, and the appropriate clothing makes that dynamic, functional work possible. If you’ve forgotten your clothes to change into, we will make whatever you’re wearing work, though!

By dressing the part, you’re not just coming for a massage; you're actively participating in your own recovery. You’re helping us help you get back in the game, stronger than before.

Ready for a session that makes a real difference? Let's get to work!

Schedule with one of our massage and stretching therapists today and with our wide range of tools and resources, we can help you restore mobility, strength, flexibility, all without that deep ache or pain, no matter what you’re wearing.
